Ad Misericordiam Fallacy

(a.k.a. Appeal to Pity, Appeal to Sympathy, or Appeal to Misery)

Using pity or sympathy as a reason for believing

Examples:

No one should say that my sin is wrong because that hurts my feelings.

Everyone should pity me and give me money. It’s not my fault that I don’t want to work.

Salespeople know this tactic as the sympathy close.
